Am I eligible for ACC cover?

There are several qualification criteria which means you may be eligible for ACC cover:

  • if your hearing loss is due to a traumatic event.
  • a treatment injury
  • prolonged workplace noise exposure.

Generally, ACC will consider the cause and level of your hearing loss before making a decision on your claim. Your age, health or genetic conditions can also affect the level of ACC’s funding contribution, if your claim is approved. If you are not eligible for ACC funding, the Ministry of Health may be able to provide funding or subsidy assistance for hearing devices.

What ACC support may I be eligible for?

As well as contributing funding towards hearing aids, ACC can also contribute to the maintenance and repair of hearing aids, earwax removal, and replacement hearing aids batteries if you meet the eligibility criteria. This funding may completely or partially cover the cost of hearings aids or any associated services.

Hearing aid funding from ACC is provided where 5% or more of your hearing loss is caused by an injury, this can include:

  • Hearing injury or hearing loss caused by a traumatic event
  • Hearing loss caused by some medical treatments
  • Gradual onset hearing as a result of prolonged workplace noise

Depending on the cause and extent of your hearing loss, ACC provides different levels of funding. Our team will help you find hearing aids that best suits your hearing needs.
