Are hearing aids covered by insurance?

1. Government Funding Options

• Ministry of Health (MOH) Subsidy 
  
  ​Most New Zealand citizens and permanent residents aged 16 and over are eligible for the Government Hearing Aid Subsidy Scheme, which provides a contribution toward the cost of hearing aids every six years.

• Hearing Aid Funding Scheme (HAFS)
  
  If you have a significant hearing loss and meet specific criteria (e.g. dual disability or significant communication needs), you may qualify for fully funded hearing aids through the MOH’s Hearing Aid Funding Scheme

2. ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation)

If your hearing loss is work-related or caused by noise exposure or injury, ACC may cover part or all of the cost of your hearing aids.
